Chess in Omaha & Nebraska - 1887
** The First Omaha City Chess Club & Champ - 1887 **
"When the Omaha Chess Club found permanent quarters in the
Ramge Block at 15th & Harney in the fall 1887, it held the
first Omaha City Tournament the same winter. Sixteen strong
players entered the meet which was won by George Barker with
26.5 - 5.5. Mr Parmer and O.P. Seward tied for second with
26 - 6. The game below is one of the best played in the meet.
At the same time the Chess Club as a group played a
correspondence match with Des Moines, Iowa. The match was drawn
with a game apiece and one draw."

"Problems Nos. 30-33 were taken from a chess column in the
Omaha Daily World many years ago. While the problems are not 'A-1'
they are interesting and worthy of reproduction. Nothing is known
of the composers aside from the fact that E.O. Odson finished 6th
in the first Omaha City Championship in 1887. Of the others,
M.W. Felmley of Fort Omaha was the most prolific for a number of
his problems appeared in the column.
