** Marvin Katz ** (19?? - 1996)

Marvin Katz died December 20, 1996; he was living in the
Rose Blumkin home near the Jewish Community Center in Omaha.
Marvin was apparently unmarried and had no children according to
Bruce Draney and the staff at the home.
Jack Spence wrote in the H.E.Ohman Memorial CC Newsletter,
Winter 1971, pg 61; "Katz, long time Colorado Champion, moved to
Omaha in the mid-sixties. He is a railroad man."
I checked "Chess Life", April 1967; and found him in the ratings
list with an established rating of 1980 and a resident of Colorado.
By December the rating list showed a resident of Nebraska. He played
in the Midwest Open in 1967. I remember playing him skittles at
the YMCA in 1978; Arnold Friend seemed to play chess with him quite
a bit, and may have more information about him. It would be interesting
to know how many times he was the champion of Colorado.
Here are a few of his games.
